The electricity costs for consumers consist of several components<\/strong> together: the Energy price <\/strong>(often colloquially referred to as \u201celectricity price\u201d), which Basic flat rate <\/strong>of the electricity supplier, the Network charges <\/strong>as well as various Steer <\/strong>and Taxes<\/strong>The exact composition may vary depending on annual consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The energy price or \u201celectricity price\u201d:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n


The price for electrical energy is usually quoted including 20 % value added tax (VAT) per kilowatt hour (kWh). In our example, we assume a Gross electricity price<\/strong> from 24 cents\/kWh<\/strong> This corresponds to a Net electricity price of 20 cents\/kWh<\/strong> (excl. VAT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the consumption price, each electricity provider charges a monthly basic fee<\/strong> (also called \u201cbase price\u201d) for the provision of the service. In our example, this is 5 euros per month<\/strong>, so 60 euros per year including VAT.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The effective electricity price per kWh:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n


With an annual consumption of 3,500 kWh and an electricity price of 24 cents per kWh (incl. VAT)<\/strong> This initially results in a pure consumption price of: 3,500 kWh \u00d7 0.24 \u20ac\/kWh = 840 euros per year<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The effective electricity price<\/strong> (Consumption price + pro rata basic flat rate) is therefore: 24 cents + 1.71 cents = 25.71 cents per kWh (including VAT)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The network charges of Wiener Netze:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The network charges of Wiener Netze consist of the Network usage fee<\/strong>, dem Network loss fee <\/strong>and the Fee for measurement services<\/strong> The amount of the network charges depends on the grid level at which the respective power connection is located. These grid levels differ mainly in the voltage level. For private households, the Network level 7<\/strong>which is assigned to low voltage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The annual base price for grid usage is \u20ac36 (excluding VAT), while the consumption-based price is \u20ac0.530 per kilowatt hour. In addition, a grid loss fee of \u20ac0.866 per kilowatt hour is charged. Metering services cost \u20ac2.18 per month (also excluding VAT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taxes and duties:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the network fees, Wiener Netze charges various taxes and levies. These include Electricity tax<\/strong>, the Renewable energy subsidy<\/strong> and the Renewable energy subsidy<\/strong>, the Use tax <\/strong>as well as the VAT<\/strong>The renewable energy subsidy allowance and the renewable energy subsidy contribution were suspended in 2022 and 2023 and financed entirely from federal budget funds in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The electricity levy is generally 1.5 cents per kilowatt-hour. However, from May 1, 2022, to December 31, 2024, it was reduced to 0.1 cents per kilowatt-hour. In Vienna, a utility fee of EUR 6 per kilowatt-hour is also levied on the net amount of the network charges. Finally, a value-added tax of EUR 20 per kilowatt-hour is levied on the entire electricity bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
