Tension surrounding the new Electricity Industry Act (ElWG)

In politics, there is currently intensive discussion about the new Electricity Industry Act (ElWG) is being discussed, which is intended to replace the current Electricity Industry and Organisation Act (ElWOG).

Regardless of how one judges the ongoing debates, one thing is certain: Something is happening! And that's a good sign for everyone committed to energy communities. The current draft of the Electricity Industry Act (ElWG) contains numerous promising innovations—assuming the law is passed in this form.

Among other things, the current restriction of Renewable Energy Communities (EEGs) to a Medium-voltage busbars are eliminatedIn the future, the respective substation will represent the new geographical boundary. Furthermore, the legal certainty of energy communities will be strengthened, decentralized energy generation will be promoted, and for the first time, the legal framework for Peer-to-peer trading with renewable electricity.

It remains to be seen what the final text of the law will look like – but the direction is right!
