Advantages of the Energy Community

It is important to distinguish whether the electricity comes from a regional Renewable Energy Community (EEG) originates from or from a Citizens' Energy Community (BEG) at the national level, that makes a difference – especially for the Advantages.

If the current produced and consumed in the region or in the neighborhood – for example, at the same network level, at the same transformer or via a common substation – the Network charges and levies are significantly lowerIn this case, we speak of a local or regional Renewable Energy Community (EEG).

The situation is different with the Citizens’ Energy Community (BEG): Here the current can shared throughout Austria – for example from Carinthia to Vienna – but the Advantage in network fees lower, because the current is multiple network levels and larger distances must be transported.
