Data quality in power sharing: What do L1, L2 and L3 mean?

Green, red, or gray: On nobile:connected, you can see how reliable your energy data is. We explain what the colors mean and why displayed electricity consumption figures can change later.

Anyone who tracks their electricity consumption or feed-in wants to know: Are these values complete? Can I rely on them? Data quality ratings help you interpret the readings correctly.

Why is energy data sometimes missing?

In an energy community, electricity is generated based on... Quarter-hour values assigned. The crucial factor is therefore how much electricity is fed in and consumed within the same 15 minutes.

The network operator provides the necessary data via the energy industry data exchange (EDA) – generally daily for the previous day. However, sometimes these values are still incomplete or need to be verified.

One possible reason is a communication problem between the smart meter and the grid operator. This doesn't automatically mean that the meter isn't recording electricity consumption. The transmission of the readings can be delayed. There are established procedures for calculating substitute values for missing readings.

The colors on nobile

With us, the data is stored on nobile:connected as follows:

LabelingMeaning
L1 · Dark GreenThe data is measured and reliable.
L2 · Light greenThe data are estimated and likely to be accurate.
L3 · RedThe data is estimated and likely to be inaccurate.
GrayNo data is available for this period.

Technically, these are called L2 values. reliable substitute values. They are determined mathematically or through appropriate processing and are generally considered billable. Therefore, they do not need to be replaced later by measured values.

L3 values, on the other hand, are unreliable substitute values. These values serve as preliminary information and should not be used for a final energy bill. Red does not mean that every displayed value is incorrect. It means that the data is not yet reliable enough.

Will preliminary figures be corrected later?

The network operator checks whether missing or incorrect data can be provided or corrected. This may result in subsequent changes to displayed energy quantities and analyses.

For the allocation of energy within the community, the described process will take place at the latest on 16th calendar day A final calculation is performed. If individual time series are still missing, they are treated as zero for the allocation. As a result, no allocation of community electricity may be possible for the affected periods.

Data from other participants can also play a role: If reliable values are lacking there, the resulting community assignment can also be provisional.

Later measurements do not always mean a new power distribution.

A distinction is important here: Correcting measurement data and redistributing the community electricity are two different processes.

If the energy allocation has already been completed with reliable L1 or L2 values, no further allocation is planned according to the described procedure. However, subsequently received, better measurement data may still change the remaining grid consumption or the remaining surplus.

Therefore, you should not assume that every data gap will automatically lead to a subsequent allocation of community electricity.

What you should pay attention to

Grey does not mean zero consumption or zero feed-in. The data for the display is simply missing. You should consider red values as preliminary and not compare them directly with a final bill.

If data gaps persist for an extended period or if values seem implausible to you, please contact us. Include the affected time period and your meter point number so we can investigate your issue effectively.
