BEG VIENNA: Delivered as promised

Many citizen energy communities (CECs) face a structural problem: there are often significantly more energy producers than consumers. For members with their own generation facilities – such as photovoltaic systems – this often means that only about 10 to 15 percent of their electricity surplus They can actually be sold within the energy community. The hoped-for additional revenue therefore often fails to materialize.

At BEG WIEN, we have pursued a different approach from the very beginning. Our goal was to create a stable and balanced ratio between supplying and consuming members to achieve this, we are relying on a multi-stage management of our energy community, which constantly ensures that production and consumption are matched as well as possible.

The current figures show that this approach works.

71.9% of the surplus electricity was successfully used in BEG Vienna.

In the last four weeks Our feeders were able to on average, they deliver 71.9 percent of their surplus electricity to BEG Vienna.. This means that the proportion is significantly higher than what is common in many energy communities.

This high percentage brings several advantages. For one thing, the More efficient use of the electricity grid, because more locally generated electricity is also consumed locally. Secondly, it strengthens the regional energy transition, since renewable energy is used directly in Vienna. At the same time, the members feeding into the grid benefit from a significantly better marketing of their electricity surplus.

The trend shows that a well-managed balance between generation and consumption is a crucial success factor for energy communities.
