Everyone except large corporations can participate. It doesn't matter to households whether you rent, own, or live in a cooperative apartment. If the technical requirements (smart meter and data sharing) are met, there's generally nothing preventing you from becoming a member – however, the board makes the final decision.

Regional focus of each EEG

Each EEG (Renewable Energy Sources Act) only shares electricity within its own region.

A regional renewable energy community (REC) may only share electricity within a specific area – usually within a substation or even just on a medium-voltage busbar. In Vienna, we therefore have several RECs to supply as many people as possible with sustainable energy. To be assigned to the correct REC, the...
