Some important facts about the EEG
How renewable energy communities work and what we can do for you.
Useful information
Renewable energy community
EEG WIEN is a non-profit association, run by volunteers, that supports its members in sharing and trading electricity. Producers (suppliers) make a portion of their self-generated and sustainably produced electricity available to the community. This electricity is then consumed by our consumers (buyers) at the exact moment it is produced.

Technical knowledge
The current
Our energy community doesn't require its own power lines and doesn't physically reroute the electricity – the process is purely electronic. We receive your consumption or generation data from your smart meter via the grid operator and then distribute the electricity to our members through our billing system. Electricity is only distributed as long as our producers are able to supply it. Therefore, we cannot cause power outages, because your energy supplier continues to provide power even if we are unable to supply it.

Organizational knowledge
The settlement
The tasks of EEG WIEN therefore essentially include registering members, registering metering points with the grid operator, and billing members for electricity. This involves complying with regulations and laws, as well as handling accounting and tax matters. Twice a year, our board also sets the electricity price, the administrative surcharge, and the remuneration. You, on the other hand, can sit back and relax – because after you register, everything runs automatically.
