✨ The quiet time is here ✨
Dear members, dear interested parties,
With the holidays, things quiet down – a good moment to pause and look back.
2025 was already the second year in which I was able to dedicate myself to the topic of energy communities with complete conviction. And an incredible amount happened.
What once began as a small EEG initiative for my neighborhood in Wienerberg has grown into a large, strong community – with its own umbrella organization: EEG WIEN. After a brief, not entirely successful interlude with a Graz-based umbrella organization, we have created something truly special this year: a genuine, non-profit energy community that treats both electricity consumers and producers fairly, equitably, and transparently.
We were able to implement more than 20 concrete improvements – supported by the volunteer work of 100 people. The result is a high level of appeal for all Viennese residents. Environmental protection, regionality, and relieving the strain on the electricity grid remain our top priorities. However, we are consciously taking a slightly different approach:
We have ambitious goals, but we remain frugal, down-to-earth, and humane. Our focus is on households and people – not corporations. We forgo ostentation and fanfare, preferring to work quietly, consistently, and with heart towards achieving our objectives.
Looking ahead gives us hope as well:
With the new Electricity Industry Act, which comes into force on October 1, 2026, and our planned growth, we anticipate many exciting developments. These include 15 new renewable energy subsidies (EEGs), two of which are in Penzing, as well as a citizen energy cooperative. Technically, we plan to take initial steps towards real-time data together with our partner Nobile and further improve our web portal and mobile apps. Information events are also a possibility – more details to follow.
However, all of this would not be possible without dedicated people. Therefore, we make a heartfelt request:
If you'd like to volunteer – we'd love to have you! We're especially looking for graphic and web designers, auditors, customer service representatives, and of course, project initiators. Feel free to contact me directly.
Thank you for your trust, your support and your cooperation.
We hope for sunnier days shortly after New Year's – with plenty of electricity and surplus for our members. And remember: the best advertising for us is word of mouth. Tell others about our energy community, about the benefits for yourselves, for the region, and for our environment 🌱
Winter is actually the best time to join, as we – like Wiener Netze – have plenty of time to process everything smoothly. I'm also easily reachable over the holidays.
I would like to remind our electricity consumers of something important:
An energy community only reaches its full potential when electricity is consumed at the same time it is generated. For most of us, this means adjusting our electricity consumption habits to some extent – which isn't always easy. At the same time, experience shows that much can be planned effectively: numerous activities can be rescheduled, and many devices can now be easily pre-programmed. Every small contribution helps make our community more efficient, sustainable, and effective.
I wish you and your loved ones wonderful holidays, relaxing days with your family and a happy new year 2026 ✨
